Finding a safe family car
Obviously when you buy any car, you want to feel confident that it will keep you safe and secure should the worst happen. For those with children this can become an even more important part of the process. This means that wherever your children will be seated in the car needs to be just as safe as the front seats, and that the car is reliable and solid enough to protect all of its occupants in the case of an accident.
Research child safe vehicles
There are websites online which show the best cars for safety, and many of these will be listed as ‘child-safe’ cars. Look online for a recent polls, studies and reviews which show the best child safe cars at the moment, and try to find one which fits into your budget.
Look for child safety features
If you are looking elsewhere for your family car, there are certain safety features you can look out for which make the car more child friendly. These include:
- Manual switches for airbags. You should be able to turn the airbag feature on and off if you have a child riding in the front seat with you. Switching the airbags off can help to save a child’s life if they are in a booster seat.
- Seatbelts throughout the car. This includes lap belts for the middle seat in the car, to help protect any child who is sitting in the back.
- Automatic door locks and child safety locks. These stop your child from being able to open the doors from the inside, to protect them when the car is moving, and stop them from getting out of the car without you being there.
