How your whiplash will be treated

If you have had a road accident and sustained whiplash then it is likely that your whiplash will need to be treated. Although not a serious injury in itself, whiplash can have  other problems associated which can cause all kinds of issues later in life, and if you have sustained a bad back or neck injury there is always the concern that this could affect your spine.

You should always head to a doctor with any kind of neck or back injury, and if you find yourself with whiplash then here is how it will be treated.

    • Go to the hospital as soon as possible. Whilst your injuries are still fresh, call an ambulance or get yourself to the hospital as quickly as you can. The doctors can then perform various scans and x-rays to ensure that the damage isn’t worse than it looks, and think about what the necessary treatment options will be going forward.
    • You will be given pain medication. In milder cases of whiplash your doctor can prescribe you painkillers which will help you to deal with the pain whilst your injuries heal. In more severe cases the doctor may be able to administer a spinal epidural to numb the pain and help you to recover.
    • You may be referred to a physical therapist. Depending on the extent of the damage and whether you have lost any mobility in your neck, you may be referred to a physical therapist who will be able to help you to regain movement. This can be teamed with massage therapy which will help to ease the pain and make your muscles more relaxed.
