Personal injury lawyers in Maidstone – whiplash injury claims

If you are injured in a car accident and you end up suffering from whiplash, then this could be very painful. Although some people believe that it is not a real injury so joke about it. If they have suffered from it they would release that it’s no laughing matter.

If you have been injured in an accident that was not your fault and you suffered whiplash, you will realise just how bad it is and you may want to make a personal injury claim.

Personal injury lawyers in Maidstone and whiplash

There are many ways that whiplash can happen, such as:

    • Some heavy or solid object hitting your head
    • Another vehicle hitting the back of your car with enough force to cause your head to jolt
    • Playing contact sports such as rugby or boxing
    • Slipping, tripping or falling and banging your head

If you end up having an accident from the above list and you sustained whiplash then there’s a chance you could claim if it resulted due to another persons negligence.

    The effects of whiplash

It is usual for the symptoms of whiplash to not start for a little while after the accident, quite often the next day.  When your head is suddenly jolted it can damage the nerves and tendons in the neck, this is what causes whiplash and the symptoms can include:

    • Headaches
    • Nausea
    • Tiredness
    • Backache
    • Muscle spasms
    • Blurred vision
    • Dizziness
    • Depression
    • Pain in the neck area
    • Stiffness and lack of movement in the neck
    • Pins and needles in the arms and legs

    Whiplash treatment

With plenty of rest and gentle exercise, most cases of whiplash will need no further treatment and you will recover in a few weeks. Painkillers and ice packs can help reduce the pain and swelling, but always remember never to put the ice directly onto your skin, it should be wrapped in a towel or something similar first.

The more severe cases of whiplash can take a long time to get better and some people never totally recover. In these cases neck braces and physiotherapy may be used to help relieve the symptoms.
