    What is silicosis?

Silicosis is a respiratory disease caused by exposure to silica, a harmful dust that can become lodged into the lining of the lungs when inhaled.

There are many unpleasant symptoms of this incurable disease, including shortness of breath, coughing, and overall tiredness and fatigue. Silicosis can also lead to further complications, including the onset of arthritis, kidney disease, and in severe cases even death. There have been guidelines outlined in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 to prevent workers from coming into contact with this substance.

It has historically been common for employees working in industrial settings such as factories to become ill as a result of exposure to silica, and although these new regulations exist, it is still possible today for people to be diagnosed with the illness.

If you have developed this condition and believe that the negligence of your employer caused it, call Accident Advice Helpline right away. We have over 14 years of experience in dealing with claims across the UK, including a number of personal injury claims in North Yorkshire. If you can prove that your employer knew of the presence of silica and failed to notify you or provide adequate protection, you could hold this negligence to account and receive the money you deserve.
