We all have insurance of many types. Having insurance is a modern way of life and there are many things that we cannot do without it, driving a car or keeping it on a main road for instance. We are encouraged to have insurance for our homes, their contents and even our animals. As we get older we will have pamphlets pushed through our door encouraging life insurance. To go on holidays we have to take out travel insurance.
Many banks and financial institutions now offer insurance as part of the benefits from a bank account. What many of us fail to realise is that many of our policies offer us personal accident insurance cover as standard. If you find that you have not got this cover then you will find a number of personal accident insurance companies ready and willing to offer you a quote for all sorts of eventualities.
Finding the right personal accident insurance companies
This isn’t a hard task. A quick search on the internet will bring up comparison sites offering details and prices from all sorts of companies. All major insurance providers will offer personal accident insurance policies as will many banks and financial institutions. Before you make an extra purchase read the small print in all your existing policies to see if they offer the same level of cover and what incidents they cover also. You may be surprised to find that you in fact already have cover.
What does your policy do?
The terms on the policy will depend on the level of cover you have taken out and the terms you have agreed to. If you are thinking of taking out a new policy then make sure you understand all the terms that you are agreeing to, paying particular attention to the payout terms and the length of cover. Payments for certain types of injury are pretty standard and you will find that most personal insurance companies offer the same level of compensation. Never jump into anything. Get a few quotes and if possible get some independent advice before you commit to one particular company.
What if I have an accident?
If you have an accident then your policy is in place to provide compensation for the injuries you have suffered through the personal accident insurance companies you have chosen to deal with.
The policy may also cover your legal fees if you wish to pursue against the person who caused your accident if it was not your fault. If you need any advice after having an accident then call Accident Advice Helpline on 0800 689 0500 from a land line or 0333 500 0993 from a mobile phone. We are here to help accident victims gain the compensation they are due under United Kingdom law. We will be able to advise you on what you can potentially claim and how to proceed and will even deal with the claim on your behalf.
While we cannot advise you on what personal accident insurance companies to deal with, we can advise you on how best to proceed following an accident.
