How much compensation for getting stabbed?
Claiming compensation for a criminal act is slightly different to making another type of personal injury claim so it is difficult to answer the frequently asked question, ‘How much compensation for getting stabbed?’
Indeed, how much compensation you are entitled to as a victim of a stabbing incident varies a lot depending on the severity of your injury. Being stabbed can cause not only physical injuries but also psychological damage.
You can claim for violent attacks, which includes being stabbed, through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). If you were to receive compensation from them the lowest amount you could receive is £1,000 and the highest amount is £500,000.
In order to receive any compensation it needs to be proven that it was an unprovoked attacked and you were a completely innocent victim.
Can you claim for criminal injuries in other circumstances?
Yes. You may also claim criminal injury compensation if you sustain a dog bite or if you were involved in a traffic accident, for instance.
If someone deliberately sets their dog on you, wanting it to injure you, then you may have grounds for making a claim through the CICA scheme. If an owner of a dog which has bitten people before allows it to roam free, whether in the street or in a garden and you are attacked by the dog, you can also make a claim.
If someone deliberately aims their car or other vehicle at you with the intent of causing injury to you, then you could also have grounds to make a claim through the CICA scheme.
