What Happens When you are Signed off Work Due to Claims

Getting signed off from work due to stress is nothing to be taken lightly. A doctor will never sign you off work if they don’t believe that you are legitimately ill, and if you have been made ill due to stress this can take a long time to recover from and can be a difficult road. If you are feeling very stressed and unable to cope, it is imperative that you see your doctor as soon as possible, so that they can decide the best course of action to get you back to normal sooner rather than later. If you don’t, you will just find that the illness gets worse and worse until you may be completely unable to cope.

    • You need to speak to your doctor. The first thing you need to do is go to your doctor and explain what you are feeling and how this is making you unable to cope with day to day life. The doctor will run through some tests and charts with you to see how you are feeling and can then decide to sign you off if they feel that you are too stressed to continue to work.
    • You need to talk to your employer. Once you have been signed off by a doctor, you can’t just stop working all of a sudden and return when you are feeling better, you should call your employer and tell them what is happening and how long you have been signed off for. You may also want to email them a copy of your medical certificate.
    • Keep your employer in the loop. Make sure that you call back in to speak to your employer about where you are at emotionally and physically, so that they know when to expect you back.
