Injury Solicitors in Devon talking about money

Devon is a county of England. Incomes vary significantly across the county, with parts of Torridge and Torbay having among the lowest earnings in the whole of the UK. Incomes in much of the South Hams and in villages surrounding Exeter and Plymouth are by contrast above the national average.

This is one of the best things about the no win no fee* agreement, it does not matter what your income is you can make a personal injury claim if you are injured through the fault of someone else.  The victim does not have to pay any money to start their claim, or no money if their claim is unsuccessful.

The history of no win no fee* as told by injury solicitors in Devon

Personal injury claims are nothing new, they were around at least back in the 1800’s, possibly further.  In those days you had to be able to afford the litigation costs to be able to make a claim and the divide between rich and poor was much greater, very few claimants that actually deserved compensation were able to claim it.

Legal aid was introduced with the welfare state and initially was not used a great deal.  In the 1950’s and 1960’s it began to be used a lot more as people began to demand their moral and cultural rights. This meant that if you were really poor, or rich, you could fight your corner, but if your income was middle of the road there was no help available to you.

This continued until 1998 when legal aid for certain legal cases was abolished.  Among them was personal injury claims.  It was soon realised that once again we were in a situation where only the wealthy could afford to make a personal injury claim.

The mockery of the law as told by injury solicitors in Devon

This made a mockery of the law, which says that if you are injured through the fault of someone else, the guilty party should compensate you for the suffering they have caused.  If you did not have the money, you could not do anything about it.

The 1999 Finance Act extended the use of conditional fee agreements to personal injury claims as from April 2000.  This meant that for the first time anyone could make a claim.
