    Corby Law Firm

Have you contacted a Corby law firm because of a gas leak?

In order to try and prevent gas leaks from occurring, most products and appliances which use gas are very carefully manufactured. When a new product is brought to the market, it has often undergone years of development and rigorous testing to ensure that it is safe and that it isn’t likely to leak gas or cause any injuries.

Of course, in order for this safety not to be comprised, any appliances which use gas must be fitted by someone trained and qualified. These specialists often undertake specific courses and qualifications which enable them to handle these materials safely.

Although gas can be smelt if it does leak, people are often not aware of a leak until it’s too late and illnesses have occurred. As this type of leak can cause fatalities, it is essential that you seek medical help if you think that you might have been exposed to a leak. Prior to falling unconscious, victims of a gas leak often report feeling lethargic or having a headache. As these are relatively common symptoms, they sometimes don’t associate them with a potentially fatal gas leak so they may not think to get help.

If you suspect that your property has got a gas leak somewhere, don’t try and investigate this yourself. It’s often best to leave the property and get some fresh air as soon as possible. If you’re able to, you will want to call your gas company and alert them of the problem. You may also want to raise the alarm with neighbours. As gas is highly flammable, if it was to ignite it could cause an explosion or fire so it’s best for people to evacuate until the problem has been resolved.

If a faulty item has resulted in a gas leak and you’ve suffered an illness or an injury because of this, you may want to use a Corby law firm to make a compensation claim against those responsible. Of course, it may not be a fault with the item itself which has caused the problem. If it hasn’t been fitted properly, this could also cause a leak and a Corby law firm should be able to help you to make a compensation claim against the person or company responsible.

If any damage has occurred to your property because of the leak, you may also be able to use a Corby law firm to claim for the cost of repairs, although this would be a separate claim to your one for personal injury.
