    Asbestos exposure

What to do if you have been subject to asbestos exposure

If you know or suspect that you are the victim of asbestos exposure, you should take action. This article summarises what you should do.

Tell your doctor that you suspect asbestos exposure

You should tell a health professional as soon as possible if you are worried you have been exposed to asbestos. Some symptoms can show years after the initial exposure, and disease may occur ten or even twenty years after the initial asbestos exposure. The usual injury claim deadline of three years can be extended in the case of industrial disease.

Get your financial affairs under control

If you are suffering ill health or are worried about becoming ill in the future, you should spend some time arranging your finances. One of the worst things that you can do is postpone making a compensation claim, especially when a lawyer can take all the risk out of pursuing the claim for you.

If you believe that your asbestos exposure is due to industrial negligence, or it is someone else’s fault, get in touch with Accident Advice Helpline to help you arrange a compensation claim. Most claimants don’t even need to attend court.
