Advice after a car accident in Lewisham

What advice after a car accident in Lewisham might you need? You will definitely have to get medical advice, and through doing this, you can be sure that your recovery will get off to a good start.

But there’s another kind of advice you might need: advice on how to claim compensation. Making a claim is something you might not have even considered before, but your post‑accident financial situation could well have forced you to think seriously about getting compensation.

For full advice, of course, there’s no substitute for calling Accident Advice Helpline and speaking to an advisor. But in the meantime, here’s a bit of advice that could prove useful.

Start a file for everything to do with your accident

While you’re recovering, it’s difficult to do even simple tasks, so the idea of expanding your household filing system will definitely be at the bottom of the list!

However, you should think about opening up a file for everything related to your accident, even if it’s just another suspension file in your cabinet, or an A4 ringbinder.

    Open Claim Calculator

Into this file, you can place any receipts for expenses related to your accident (e.g. taxi journeys, home help fees, childminding fees, and prescription charges). You should also keep your photographic evidence in here. You will probably have taken plenty of photos at the scene of the accident to show the damage to your vehicle.

Keeping everything together means it will be easier to access important pieces of evidence, should you decide to claim.

    Keep a diary

You should keep track of your recovery by recording your progress in a diary. You don’t have to go into great detail with it. Just make sure you put in any relevant information, such as any tasks that you’ve had difficulty doing, any medical appointments you’ve attended, and how bad your pain is.

This will be useful to your solicitor if you wish to go ahead with a claim. It will also be cathartic for you to write about what you’re experiencing, especially if you’re finding it difficult to talk about your car accident.
