Changes to vehicle road tax legislation
Owners of vehicles should be aware that from 21 July 2014, they are no longer required to display a current tax disc for their vehicle in the windscreen. They must still pay the road tax and they will receive renewal reminders from the DVLA.
Changes when buying a vehicle
A seller of a vehicle can no longer transfer the road tax disc to the buyer. The buyer must tax the new vehicle before he or she can use it. The renewal must be done at a Post Office because the DVLA cannot check the vehicle’s insurance details by phone or online.
Changes when selling a vehicle
A seller can notify DVLA of the sale, in order to receive a refund of any remaining tax.
