If you’ve been in an accident which was not your fault, compensation can be extremely important in helping you get your life back on track. However, of the thousands of people who launch personal injury claims every year, an alarming number of them will not receive full justice for their claims. This is because of a number of simple mistakes which can reduce their chances of a successful outcome. If you’re looking for accident claims solicitors in Lincolnshire, therefore, it’s worth knowing what these mistakes are so you can avoid going down the same route.

    Claiming too early

Time can be of the essence when you’re injured, but it’s important not to move too fast. If possible, it is a good idea to wait until you have fully recovered before you make a claim. This is because compensation is worked out based on the severity of your injuries and how long it takes to recover. If you make a claim before you have completed that recovery you’re going to be basing your claim on an estimated recovery time. Doctors should be able to provide a comprehensive diagnosis but if this is wrong you could end up being under-compensated.

    Choosing the wrong firm

There are many opportunities to choose the wrong law firm. When you’re injured your insurance company may well tell you about a personal injury law firm they recommend. This sounds like a good option as it saves you the hassle of searching for a firm yourself. However, in many cases insurance firms have relationships with personal injury law firms. They send business their way in return for a bit of commission. The personal injury firm your insurers tell you about has not been chosen with your best interests in mind. Instead, they’ve been chosen because of the commission.

    Settling too early

Another mistake is to take a settlement offer. The majority of cases do not go as far as the courts. That’s because the other side will normally settle before it gets that far. It’s in their interests to avoid an elongated court case. They will therefore do everything in their power to stop it going that far. An initial offer will probably be lower than the amount you should receive as they attempt to get away with paying the minimum amount. You should get a compensation estimate to give yourself a rough idea of how much your claim will be worth.

    Paying too much

There are many ways of paying for your claim. One of the most common is no win no fee. But that doesn’t mean you should forget about what happens if you do win. Make sure you understand what legal fees are applied and at what point.
