Water sports accidents: Lack of life-saving equipment

Many people don’t always think about life-saving equipment, but it is vital when it comes water sports because life saving is exactly what it says, it saves lives and could be the difference between a few cuts and bruises and a life threatening injury.

So, it is no surprise that many water sports accident claims are caused by a lack of life-saving equipment. Whether you are going surfing, jet skiing, or any other water sport, on your own or with a centre, always make sure you are well equipped with the necessary life-saving equipment to avoid any travel accident compensation claims.

What types of life-saving equipment are there and how can they prevent a travel accident compensation claim?

One of the main pieces of equipment which is used in many water sports is a life jacket. This is vital when in a boat, canoe, kayak, or even on a jet ski, as it will help keep you buoyant even if you have sustained a bad injury. Another item of clothing, which may not always seem life-saving, but could prevent an accident claim, is a wet suit. If you fall in the water, especially far out at sea, these can help keep pneumonia away and help insulate you in the colder weather, thus possibly saving your life, or at the very least perhaps preventing a travel accident claim.

How do I make sure I have the correct life-saving equipment?

If you are doing water sports with a centre they should automatically provide you with the right equipment to help prevent a travel accident. But, if they don’t then do not be afraid of asking for the equipment you need. If this is something you want to take up as a hobby, you may want to invest in your own life-saving equipment to help prevent a travel accident claim as, that way, you know you are safe and you know it isn’t defective.

But, if you do have an accident in the water that wasn’t your fault you may be able to make a claim for travel accident compensation. Speak to Accident Advice Helpline to find out if and how much you could be entitled to. They will talk you through the process and make it as easy and stress free as possible, with many clients even settling their claim out of court. To discuss your claim with a member of their expert team dial 0800 689 0500 now.
