"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

Understanding Grade 3 sprained ankle symptoms

If you have sprained your ankle then your injury will normally be graded when you see a doctor or go to the hospital. Ankle sprains are usually classified as Grade 1, Grade 2 or Grade 3. A Grade 3 sprained ankle is the most serious sprain, with swelling, join instability and bruising. It can take much longer to heal fully from a Grade 3 sprain than from a Grade 1 or 2 sprain. Grade 3 sprained ankle symptoms usually include instability of the joint, which means you will be unable to put weight on your ankle.

As you can imagine, this means you will probably be unable to go to work or participate in your usual activities, which can have a huge impact on your life, not to mention your finances. If your injury was caused by somebody else – or if you’re unsure but suspect it might have been – then you can get in touch with Accident Advice Helpline to find out about making a claim for personal injury compensation.

Are Grade 3 sprained ankle symptoms vastly different from Grade 2 symptoms?

Without a medical diagnosis, you won’t know which grade of ankle sprain you have suffered. That’s because Grade 3 sprained ankle symptoms can appear very similar to the symptoms of a Grade 2 sprain. With a Grade 2 sprain, there is not always joint instability, but with a Grade 3 sprain it is always present. You could be off work for a couple of months, or even longer if your ankle is still painful. A Grade 3 sprain is often the result of a nasty slip, trip or fall, which could happen at work or even in a public place.

Accident Advice Helpline has dealt with claims after people have slipped or tripped at swimming pools, in shopping centres – even at the local council offices. At the end of the day, if your accident was caused by somebody else’s negligence and could have been prevented, then you are entitled to make a claim for personal injury compensation within three years.
