A casual game of golf between two friends has descended into an eight-year legal battle after one of the participants was blinded by a wayward shot.
Dr Anoop Kapoor and Dr Azad Anand were partners during a game at Dix Hills Golf Course, New York, when the accident happened in 2002, reports the Daily Mail.
Dr Anand was struck on the side of the head by Dr Kapoor’s ball when the latter mis-struck a shot out of the rough. Dr Anand alleges that his companion’s failure to shout ‘fore!’ resulted in his injuries, and is seeking compensation from him.
The legal battle has rumbled on since the accident in October 2002, with judges all over the state unable to decide if Dr Kapoor was legally obliged to make his partner aware of the wild shot, or if he should be found guilty of violating the rules of the sport.
The fact that the case also hinges on minutiae such as the distances the two doctors were standing apart and the angle at which the ball travelled etc, will make the case even more difficult to contest, considering the incident in question happened so long ago.
