The City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

Being aware of health and safety in the workplace can be the difference between preventing an accident and causing one. The Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is offered by the British Safety Council to managers, team leaders and supervisors who are responsible for the safety of employees within the workplace. The course has five sections and two optional sections which teach candidates various aspects of health and safety. The course is designed to supply those in senior positions with the knowledge on how to apply health and safety procedures to everyday situations in their place of work. This includes how to conduct risk assessments, understanding the purpose of controlling and reducing hazards and identifying potential hazards in any workplace. Potential hazards can have serious consequences in the construction industry where a simple slip or fall can cause a fatal injury. Although this course is designed to show employers how important health and safety is, accidents may still have the potential to occur.

    How can accidents happen?

Accidents can be the fault of the person who sustains the injury or they can be the fault of someone else’s carelessness. The extensive training provided by the Level 3 NVQ should make those in a senior position aware of how to conduct risk assessments but, if this training is not put into practice regularly, they may cause an accident or injury inadvertently. If they do not use their training to teach employees basic health and safety practices then an accident could also occur. Should you feel that you have sustained an injury or have become ill due to someone else’s carelessness, you may have a case for compensation.
