Survivor Guide: Visiting Rome

As one of the most popular cities in Italy, Rome attracts visitors who love to explore local culture and history. Some of the most famous attractions in the world can be found in Rome including the Colosseum, the Vatican and the Spanish Steps and it also has some fantastic ruins and ancient architecture for visitors to marvel over. As one of the most photogenic cities in Europe, visitors won’t be able to leave without taking a tour of Foro Romano, or the Roman Forum, which was once the site of various ancient government buildings. Tourists can also stop at the Musei Capitolini which is the oldest public gallery in the world. Ensure that you plan your trip well to take in all the sights and make safety a priority during your stay.

Health and safety when visiting Rome

Although you are distracted and want to make the most of your stay, safety should be a priority. Watch out for:

  • Extremely hot weather
  • Pickpockets and thieves
  • Street scams
  • Reckless driving (speeding cars and scooters)
  • Uneven ground at the site of ruins

You may even have an accident during a pre-booked excursion, during your flight or during your stay at the hotel. If you have booked a package holiday then your travel provider is responsible for your safety as are the staff who work for them. Places accidents, injuries and illnesses could occur include:

  • Injuries during your flight
  • Injuries caused by slips, trips or falls in your hotel
  • Food poisoning or water-borne illnesses from food and drink consumed at the hotel restaurant
  • Crashes or road accidents during transfers
  • Accidents during an activity (e.g. sports) or an excursion

If you think you have had an accident that could have been prevented by a member of staff working for your travel company then you needn’t suffer in silence.
