New policy director for safety charity

A leading safety charity has appointed a new head of policy and standards.

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council (BSC) has revealed that Louise Ward, Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing at Thames Water, will be joining the charity as Policy and Standards Director in May

    Current director retires

The current Policy and Standards Director, Neal Stone, who was former Acting Chief Executive, has announced he will retire from the British Safety Council in May.

Louise’s career includes appointments in blue-chip companies covering everything from rail and defence to engineering.

She spent a period at the UK trade association for engineering and manufacturing businesses, EEF, where she was Head of Health and Safety Policy.

    Shape the changing landscape

In her new role, she will help shape and position the BSC in the evolving landscape of health and safety.

Louise says the proportionate and effective management of health and safety is an enabler of business activity. She adds that her career has been focused on delivering this in a wide range of industrial, commercial and public sector organisations.

She says it’s an interesting time for the profession, following the publication of the new sentencing guidelines, which have highlighted the importance of proactive and effective management of health and safety risk.
