National Grid compensation expected after gas explosion

National Grid compensation expected after gas explosion

An investigation into a recent gas explosion on Ashby Road in Scunthorpe has led to calls for compensation. Hundreds of residents were forced to evacuate their homes after the explosion took place and the thick brown dust that was emitted has raised further concerns. The dust itself was responsible for a serious clean-up operation involving gardens and patio furniture that were affected. Decking and windows were covered in this thick dust and functions were cancelled due to the mess that was left behind.

The National Grid responded by paying for the cleaning companies who tidied up the considerable mess. Grafton House Care Home on Ashby Road had to move residents to another care facility in Doncaster Town. They have not yet decided whether compensation will be sought from the National Grid at the time of writing this article. The worst casualty of this explosion was a National Grid contractor who suffered from a broken thigh bone and was sent to Hull Royal Infirmary for immediate treatment. The explosion took place around 11:30 am on Tuesday, June 24th; the cause of this has yet to be revealed.
