Horrific accident leads to concerns over zebra crossing in Essex

By David Brown on July 12, 2014

A zebra crossing in Basildon, Essex has hit the headlines locally after a 30-year old woman was hit by a car while crossing the road there. She is said to be serious but stable in hospital, while the driver involved fled the scene. Many drivers have now come forward to say they do not feel the crossing is safe. Those who know the area know that it is next to a park and one person said people come out and cross the road without looking properly. Another driver said it can be very difficult to see if someone is crossing the road when you approach it in a car.

Police are investigating the accident and a spokesman for Essex Highways said they are waiting to read the report from the police before they determine whether or not anything needs to be done regarding the crossing.

Could you be entitled to compensation after being involved in a road traffic accident?

If you have been involved in any kind of road traffic accident and it was not caused through any fault of your own, you may find you are entitled to claim compensation. This compensation may cover injuries you sustained in the accident, as well as any damages to your vehicle or possessions.

In any event it is wise to consider consulting a professional injury compensation lawyer so they can assess what occurred and whether there is evidence that negligent behaviour led to the accident taking place.
