Five tips for protecting your family from needing to make slip claims

When you have a family the last thing you want to see is them getting hurt or injured at work, home or anywhere. This unfortunately cannot always be avoided but there are many things you can do to avoid slip claims. Here are Accident Advice Helpline’s 5 top tips

If you make a mess clear it up to avoid slip claims

As a kid you probably heard this phrase a lot. But, the fact is that many accidents at home and the workplace could be avoided by ensuring any mess, spills or clutter are tidied up. So, if you spill anything make sure you mop it up as this could stop someone slipping over it. If everyone follows this rule then there would certainly be fewer claims for slips, trips, and falls

    Don’t turn a blind eye

When you are walking through the office and you spot a spillage or potential hazard don’t ignore it and think someone else will report it. The chances are that if it isn’t reported this could lead to slip claims. Always make sure you report any potential hazards to your manager or someone in charge.

Look where you are going to avoid any slips, trips, or falls

Self explanatory really. When walking, don’t focus all on that text or on reading. Look where you are going, and make sure your children do this as well to avoid any unnecessary slips claims.

    Get plenty of sleep

This seems pretty obvious but getting plenty of rest is key in preventing accidents at home or work. If you are tired you are less likely to see that slippery patch when walking and more likely to injure yourself or your family.

    Wear the correct clothing

This is another quite obvious one but something people may not think of. But, wearing the right clothing, in particular the right shoes, could help prevent slip claims. If it is cold and icy outside wear sturdy footwear with good grip or you could see yourself sliding about. This one is simply common sense but something all the family need to be aware of.

Most slips can be avoided but not all of them and this is where Accident Advice Helpline comes in. If you have a slip at work or at home or anywhere which wasn’t your fault you may be able to make a slip claim. Take the 30 second test to see if you qualify.
