Falls on a hazardous road in Brentwood lead to 15 compensation claims

Falls on a hazardous road in Brentwood lead to 15 compensation claims

Following falls on a hazardous road in Essex, 15 people have made personal injury claims against Essex County Council. The accidents, which happened on Brentwood High Street after its 2009 facelift, have forced Essex County Council to pay out £3,103 in compensation to three of the claimants.

Despite falls on a hazardous road, Essex County Council claim there are no plans underway to improve either the main road or pavement in the area. The county councillor for Brentwood South commented, “They are saying at this moment in time that the defects are not meeting the criteria for action.

“ECC has asked for a full report, including the road and paved areas, which is going to Councillor Bass in November. They are going to respond in detail into what action, if any, they are going to take. I am saying to them in the meantime that it is unacceptable.”

Councillor David Kendall says that work is urgently needed to reduce the risk of pedestrians tripping on uneven ground. He commented, “”The way I look at it is that if people have been concerned about it enough to make a claim and spend time on making a claim, then it is certainly serious and needs to be addressed. There are a lot of elderly people on the High Street and if people are falling over then it is a serious problem.”

Have you suffered a slip, trip, or fall?

Your local council is responsible for maintaining pavements and roads to a safe standard, so if you have suffered a slip, trip or fall due to an uneven surface, debris on the ground or other hazards that could have been avoided, you may wish to consider making a claim for compensation against your local council.

Whilst it can be a long process trying to get the compensation you deserve, in many cases this can be speeded up by choosing the right personal injury lawyer – a reputable firm that you can trust, who will handle your claim professionally and efficiently.
