    Experimental stag/hen do cocktails

It is common place to celebrate your last few days before married bliss with a good night on the tiles. Stag and hen nights are often filled with over-intoxication, and a curious phenomenon which has emerged in recent years is the use of experimental cocktails in order to test your nerve. Inspired by modern cooking shows such as those presented by Heston Blumenthal, many people are inspired to try scientific cocktails, the ingredients of which may be unorthodox and potentially harmful.

Here, Accident Advice Helpline publishes an example of these kinds of substances and what to avoid in order to ensure your stag or hen night doesn’t go awry.

    The liquid Nitrogen Jägerbomb

A Jägerbomb is a cocktail popular among many young people. It is comprised of a shot of a magensauer, the most common brand of which is Jägermeister and an energy drink. The combination of alcohol and caffeine alone can be a dangerous phenomenon, but add liquid Nitrogen to the mix and it quite literally becomes a potent cocktail.

    What is liquid Nitrogen?

Liquid Nitrogen is a chemical used to super-freeze many substances instantaneously. It is used in many industrial processes and in the treatment of warts and verrucae. With a boiling point of -196°c, liquid Nitrogen is an extremely potent substance.

In October 2012, an 18 year old Lancaster girl suffered horrific injuries as a result of consuming a Jägerbomb made with liquid Nitrogen. Her injuries were so severe, that the young girl ended up having her stomach removed as a result. Liquid Nitrogen freezes most materials instantly upon contact and consuming even a few drops of it can have disastrous consequences. The bar in question has since stopped selling any cocktails made with liquid Nitrogen and a full investigation is under way. It may seem exciting to experiment with substances behind the bar, but you should always be very wary of their potentially disastrous results.

Be careful on your stag or hen do and don’t feel forced into drinking something that you feel uncomfortable with.
