It has not been possible to find crime figures for each and every one of Liverpool’s suburbs, making it difficult to pinpoint the most dangerous suburb in Liverpool. Merseyside Police figures for crimes reported in September 2015 do, however, show that with 814 reported crimes, the Kensington, Fairfield, Tuebrook and Old Swan area appears to be the most dangerous region, closely followed by Everton, Anfield, County and Kirkdale (770) and South Sefton (717). Figures for other areas are:
- Fazakerley, Warbreck and Croxteth, Norris Green and Clubmoor 716
- North Sefton 580
- East Sefton 571
- Greenbank, Mossley Hill, Riverside and St Michaels 484
- Kirkby 458
- Allerton and Hunts Cross 455
- West Derby, Yew Tree and Knotty Ash 366
- Belle Vale, Netherley and Childwall, Church and Woolton 331
- City Centre 284
- Picton, Princes and Wavertree 258
- West Sefton 160
In all areas, incidents of anti-social behaviour by far outweigh the numbers for all other types of crime.
Even the most dangerous suburb in Liverpool appears safer than other cities
While these figures may seem high, a comparison of Liverpool’s crime rates to those of other British cities of comparable size shows that Liverpool is actually a comparatively safe city.
Even little Salisbury in Wiltshire, which has little more than a quarter of the population Liverpool has, shows higher crime rates than Liverpool in terms of:
- Shoplifting, bicycle and other thefts
- Criminal damage and arson
- Violence and sexual offences
While it is advisable to try and stay out of trouble, especially on weekend evenings, when gangs of drunken youths may be looking for a fight, it seems you are more likely to suffer injuries by slips, trips and falls in a dangerous suburb in Liverpool than an injury by violent assault.
