Most of us take our bodies for granted – unless, of course, something goes wrong. At this point, we suddenly realise just how much they do on a regular basis that we don’t even consider. For example, the consequences of a serious back injury can reach into all areas of our lives. Some people may never work again as the result of an injury like this, or at least may suffer pain every day for the rest of their lives.
Back injuries can occur in an accident at work, in a car accident, or in another type of accident. In each case though, there is the potential that the injured person may have suffered an injury that could easily have been prevented. Health and safety issues may possibly have been neglected or ignored, for example. Alternatively, a reckless driver could have caused the injury.
How could a serious back injury change your life?
If your injury is severe, you may suffer damage to your spinal cord. This could leave you paralysed to some degree. Some who have suffered injuries like these end up in a wheelchair for the rest of their lives. Paralysis can occur to the lower body, or to the lower and upper body.
Even when paralysis does not occur, the injured person may not be able to walk far. They may require sticks to help them, or may find they tire easily. In other situations, people may find they can no longer work in the same way they did before, or they might have to work reduced hours. This can all have an impact on their financial situation. This is hard to deal with in any event, but especially so when someone else was responsible for their injuries.
