Compensation for suffering crushed fingers at work

Can you imagine what it would be like to suffer crushed fingers at work? One moment you might be doing your job as normal or perhaps undertaking a particular task, and the next moment something happens to crush your fingers. It is hard to imagine just how painful that could be, especially if the accident is severe.

Accident Advice Helpline knows very well how bad such accidents can be. We have heard from people who have suffered nasty injuries and required medical treatment for severe crush injuries to their fingers while at work. In some cases negligence has been identified as the root cause, and those workers have claimed compensation as a result.

How could you suffer crushed fingers at work?

This could potentially happen in a number of ways. For example you might be moving something heavy and something falls onto your hands. In another example it might be potentially possible for someone to catch their fingers between a conveyor belt and its roller, if there is no safety guard in place to prevent this from happening.

Clearly in the second case this would be a clear example of negligence, since safety guards should be in position to stop just this kind of injury from occurring. There have been cases where people who have suffered crushed fingers have been able to get compensation from their employer for suffering the injury.

    Health and safety

We are all aware of health and safety and how important it is to adhere to these rules and regulations in the workplace. By performing risk assessments and implementing any changes recommended in those risk assessments it is possible to avoid a wide range of accidents and incidents from occurring at all. Fortunately most employers understand the need to do this, and undertake their duties with diligence in this area.
