Compensation for slipping in a shopping centre

Slipping over can be anything from a minor embarrassment to a very painful experience. A simple slip might not sound too serious, but in reality it can lead to an injury if you are unlucky. A lot will depend how you slip and whether you can catch yourself before you actually fall. If you don’t you could end up hurting yourself.

Slipping in a shopping centre is not that likely to happen, and this is partly due to the diligence with which those in charge of the centre ensure the floors are kept clean and tidy. A slip can be very easy to do if the floors are dirty or have spillages on them that are not properly signed before they are cleared up.

Examples of slipping in a shopping centre

Slipping in spilled food or drink is the most likely cause of an injury. You won’t look down at your feet the whole time you are walking so it is very likely that you wouldn’t see a spillage if you were about to walk through one.

This is why cleaners will use warning signs that are much easier to see. These should be put out when they see a spillage and they can then clean it up without worrying about whether anyone else will fall over in it.

Slips are a common reason why people call companies such as Accident Advice Helpline. It is very common for people to want answers to why they were injured when slipping in a shopping centre or in any other public place. We can often provide those answers.

    Slipping on ice

This is another example of what might happen. In the winter months the temperature can drop far enough to cause ice to form outside. Even frost can be potentially dangerous and very slippery.

Car parks and areas just outside the doors of the shopping centres can be particularly prone to getting icy and slippery. Thus the people responsible for the shopping centre should do everything they can to make sure they are able to keep the surfaces safe.

If you haven’t been able to visit a shopping centre without experiencing a slip of some kind, call Accident Advice Helpline on 0800 689 0500 now. This enquiry line is always free to call and it has led many to receive compensation shortly afterwards with our help.
