    Compensation for a ruined holiday


    When you save all year for a great family holiday or a backpacking break to Asia, you expect to be able to relax and enjoy your break without any worries – after all, you’ve worked hard to be able to afford it! However, each year hundreds of people become ill or injured on holiday through no fault of their own. Here are just a few of the things that could go wrong whilst you’re enjoying a break in the sunshine:

    • Broken bones – perhaps from a slip, trip or fall
    • Food poisoning
    • Vomiting bug
    • Injured by objects falling from a height – such as from scaffolding at your hotel

    Any of these things could ruin what promised to be a relaxing holiday, and you might find you spend most of your holiday recovering from your illness or injury – you may even end up in hospital. However, you don’t have to suffer in silence; you could claim compensation for a ruined holiday from your tour operator, if you booked a package holiday. If you’ve booked your flight and accommodation independently, you probably won’t be able to make a claim, but you can complain to the hotel you stayed at, for example, if you were struck down with food poisoning after eating in the hotel restaurant.
