Towards the end of our lives we may no longer be able to live by ourselves in our own homes. Failing health and the possibility of illness or simply being frail could result in us being moved into a nursing or care home. This means there are people on hand to help with all manner of tasks we can no longer do on our own.
In some cases we may have to make the decision to move an elderly relative into a care home. We do this in the hope they will be better cared for there than we could do at home. Nursing home care is generally of a very high standard and is excellent, provided by dedicated staff who are well-trained in the work they do. It is rare that nursing home falls will occur and when they do they are rarely due to negligence.
How might nursing home falls happen?
In some cases people may not be strong enough to walk by themselves any more. If someone requires someone else to walk with, a member of staff should always be on hand to provide the support that is required. Thankfully this is generally the case but if no one is around or the person is left to walk by themselves, nursing home falls can happen. In other cases there is a possibility staff have not been trained enough to use equipment to help transfer a person from a bed to a wheelchair, for example. This too can potentially lead to an accident.
Of course cases like this are exceptionally rare. They rarely occur because the training provided to staff is usually excellent and goes above and beyond what is required. Care staff and other workers are dedicated to looking after their clients, which is why few instances of negligence in this case come to the attention of companies like Accident Advice Helpline.
