Compensation for being hit by a train

It is virtually impossible to imagine what it must be like to be hit by a train. Fortunately this is something few of us will ever have to find out for real. Fatalities and accidents on the railway are thankfully very rare indeed. However, when they do occur they can lead to serious consequences for the person involved. Due to the speed and weight of the train, and the fact that it is on a track, it is virtually impossible for a driver to stop in time if they see someone on the track ahead of them.

While we all know it would be foolhardy to wander onto the railway, there are still instances in which potential hazards may possibly lead to a greater chance that an accident might occur. For example there might be faulty warning lights at a level crossing. Someone may assume the lights should flash when a train is approaching. If they are broken it would be easy to assume it was safe to cross. If a train approaches at speed a person may not have enough time to cross. Warning signs should also be in place anywhere there is a potential danger.

What might happen as the result of being hit by a train?

These accidents do not generally incur minor injuries. Many people are killed, either outright or soon afterwards. Those that may survive could potentially lose limbs and be seriously injured as a result. Their lives may not be the same as a consequence of such an accident. While we hear of suicides on the railway it is also potentially the case that accidents might also occur if the circumstances exist for this to happen. Sadly some people have already lost their lives in situations like these.
