Most common canyoning accident injuries

Canyoning is one of the most exciting extreme sports. Participants can enjoy climbing, abseiling, swimming, base jumping and scrambling. As with all extreme sports, there is a high chance of being injured whilst canyoning. As a law firm with years of experience in all areas of personal injury compensation including sports injuries, Accident Advice Helpline has gained expert knowledge when it comes to identifying potential accidents and injuries. Here we look at some of the most common canyoning accident injuries:

Slips, trips and falls

As with many sports, choosing the appropriate footwear is essential when canyoning. Uneven and wet terrain create a serious risk of slipping, tripping or falling so it is important to choose the correct type of footwear, in this instance, climbing boots. Slipping tripping or falling when canyoning can be fatal, so it is important not take safety lightly.

Canyoning often involves jumping from cliffs into pools of water. Many people decide to jump into a pool of water before checking whether it is safe to do so, resulting in a number of fractures. Accidents from jumping into pools of water can be caused by pools of water being too shallow, or trees jutting out from the cliff edge or hidden obstacles under the surface.

Repetitive Strain Injury

Repetitive Strain Injury or RSI occurs when a continuous and excessive strain is placed on the same muscle groups. Canyoning can be exhausting and places serious strain on the hands, wrists, back, neck and shoulders. It is important to avoid the chances of an RSI occurring by taking regular rest breaks and wearing the correct protective equipment.
