Claiming compensation for salmonella food poisoning

Food poisoning can be contracted when food is undercooked, prepared inadequately, stored at the wrong temperature or the food is simply not fresh enough to eat. Eating in an unhygienic restaurant or other establishment can result in a bout of food poisoning which can leave a sufferer feeling extremely ill for a few days to a few weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. Salmonella is a type of bacteria which causes food poisoning and is primarily passed to food from contact with faeces from an infected animal or person.

Food which is cooked properly is very unlikely to cause salmonella food poisoning as the heat kills the bacterium. Water can also be infected with salmonella which means that vegetables, fruit and fish which have had contact with the infected water may cause food poisoning. Salmonella food poisoning causes symptoms of nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhoea. These usually only last a few days but, if they last longer and a fever lasts longer than a few days, you may need to seek medical help. If you ate at an establishment which you suspect gave you an illness and are considering claiming compensation for salmonella food poisoning, you may wish to contact a compensation claims company for help.

    Causes of food poisoning

Food poisoning can be caused by a range of bacterium but luckily, the bacteria are expelled from the body after a few days in milder cases. Causes include failure to wash fresh fruit and vegetables, keeping an unclean establishment, preparing and touching food with unclean hands and failure to cook food thoroughly. If you are thinking of claiming compensation for salmonella food poisoning or another type of foodborne illness, you can contact the Accident Advice Helpline for representation.
