No two cafés are ever the same. Some have a certain theme whereas others are simply very friendly and welcoming and always offer you a range of drinks and treats to consider buying. It is fair enough to expect a range of snacks and proper meals in any café you enter. You would not, however, expect a case of food poisoning as a result of eating there.
Café food poisoning compensation cases do crop up occasionally. We say ‘occasionally’ because most cafés are run to the best of standards, and very few issues ever arise in any of them. Those in charge have a duty to make sure they serve food of the best quality, and never make anyone ill as a result of the services they provide.
When might this go wrong?
Food poisoning occurs when rules and regulations in cafés (and indeed other food outlets) are not followed in the way they should be. For example the food may not be stored in the proper manner or at the right temperature, regardless of whether it is cooked or not. There may be infestations of rats or mice or even cockroaches that are able to crawl all over the food, raising the chances of bacteria being transferred to it as a result.
Even when the premises are very clean, there could be bacteria present on the food if it has not been stored at the appropriate temperature. Improper preparation and a lack of training among staff could also lead to further problems.
Are you able to claim café food poisoning compensation?
You might be asking yourself this if you have ever been made ill by eating at a café anywhere in the UK. You don’t necessarily have to claim straight away either – providing you make your claim within three years of falling ill you have a chance to get to a successful conclusion.
Here at Accident Advice Helpline, we employ expert lawyers who regularly deal with cases just like these. If you haven’t yet got in touch with a compensation lawyer, now is the time to do so.
