"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

Average healing time for a bad back

Back injuries can be painful and debilitating, as your back connects to others parts of your body such as your neck, shoulders, arms and legs, which can cause pain to radiate outwards. Whether you have injured your back after a slip in a public place, an accident at work or even a road traffic accident, the average healing time for a bad back can vary depending on the type of injury you have sustained. But you could find you’re eligible to make a personal injury claim if somebody else caused your accident.

How long will your back take to heal?

The average healing time for a bad back can vary, but as a general rule, a pulled muscle in your back can take 3-4 weeks to heal. If you have suffered a slipped disc or a more serious injury, the time taken to recover can vary. In some cases you may need surgery and/or physiotherapy to make a full recovery. One thing most doctors agree on is that bed rest is not an option when you injure your back.

Exercising your back, massage and chiropractic treatment can all be helpful, and you can take painkillers to ease discomfort. If you’ve injured your back in an accident that wasn’t your fault, such as tripping on a damaged pavement in town or slipping on an unmarked wet floor at work, you can get in touch with Accident Advice Helpline to find out if you’re eligible to make a personal injury claim.

    Are you eligible for compensation?

Don’t think that just because your back injury is relatively minor, you won’t be able to make a personal injury claim. If somebody else is to blame for your accident, you could make a claim for compensation for your pain, suffering and loss of earnings. Perhaps you’ve needed to take a month off work after injuring your back in a workplace accident? Although average healing time for a bad back can vary, you could still make a personal injury claim and be compensated for your loss of earnings, which could help you out financially until you’re fit to return to work.
