Top 3 accident hotspots in West Sussex

With mile upon mile of picturesque countryside, driving through West Sussex can be an extremely pleasant experience; providing, of course, you don’t suffer an accident on the road. Such idyllic scenery can all too easily lead to eyes and minds being distracted from the job in hand. When driving, your safety is equally dependant on the skills and competencies of other road users as it is on your own. Of course, some roads are also significantly harder to negotiate than others and are more likely to cause vehicle collisions.

Which roads in West Sussex are most likely to cause a road traffic accident?

The following stretches of tarmac need to be paid particularly close attention when driving in order to avoid serious incidents on the road.

    • A285 – Chichester to Petworth
Back in 2008, this was the only road in the whole of the south of England to make it into a report by the Road Safety Foundation detailing the most dangerous roads in the United Kingdom.
    • A259
This road winds and meanders its way along the south coast. Beginning in Hampshire, it moves though West Sussex and on towards Brighton before terminating in Folkestone. Such is the number of accidents on the road that occur, the BBC announced the road as the ‘most crash prone A-road’ in the UK. The statistics make for alarming reading. From 1999-2010, there were 7, 721 crashes on the road, causing 120 fatalities.
    • A24
Attempts to increase the levels of safety along a particularly perilous stretch of this road, namely the section which stretches from Capel to Daux roundabout in Horsham, have been met with scorn by some residents. Numerous winding bends make overtaking manoeuvres particularly risky and many people feel road accidents will continue until a replacement dual carriageway is built.

What can I do if I am injured in a road accident?

Provided your traffic crash meets certain criteria, you may be due some traffic injury compensation. As long as you can prove that:

    1. The accident occurred within the last three years
    2. The road crash caused injuries which required medical attention
    3. The incident on the road was the fault of someone else then you will have a strong case for injury compensation.

Our  team of legal experts at Accident Advice Helpline has years of experience in processing personal injury claims arising from incidents on the road.
