Space hopper relay race: Potential accidents

Space hoppers are those inflatable balls which have a rubber handle on them so you can sit on them and jump around, holding onto the handle. These were very popular in the 90s and every kid either had one or wanted one.

During the past few years these have made a re-appearance and now that the 90s kids are adults they still want one. Even as a child these could cause you to have a slip, trip or fall and even more so as adults. But, what exactly are the potential accidents with a space hopper?

Sustaining a fall injury whilst bouncing

This is probably the most obvious accident but the more you bounce and the faster you move the more likely you are to bounce off the space hopper and sustain a fall injury.

Slips, trips or falls over objects on the ground

Unless you are an expert at the space hopper relay race then you may find it difficult to change direction or even move in a completely straight line. This means that it can be hard to avoid items on the ground thus possibly causing a slip, trip or fall injury.

    Bouncing into others

This is similar to the last potential slip, trip or fall accident but if you cannot easily manoeuvre the space hopper you may bounce into another space hopper racer thus causing you or the other person a slip, trip or fall injury.

As you can see, although having a space hopper relay race can be fun for those taking part and those watching, it can cause injuries. In reality though, participants tend to take the view that space hoppers are not tall and are very soft so could not cause much of a slip, trip or fall injury so they adopt the ‘if you want to do it, then go for it’ attitude.

If you have had a slip, trip or fall that wasn’t your fault, whether a space hopper was involved or not, you may be able to make a claim. Accident Advice Helpline is a law firm which specialises in personal injury compensation claims such as slips, trips and falls.
