If I’m injured at work, can I claim for my time off?

Accidents at work can be awkward, particularly when the incident is someone else’s fault and you are injured at work through no fault of your own. If the injury results in you having to take time off then it can be especially challenging to claim for the compensation you are owed if you think your employer may be liable.

Accident Advice Helpline will be able to assist you with any issues such as this. Contacting our 24/7 Freephone helpline and speaking to one of our friendly and professional advisors will give you the best approach to dealing with any compensation claim situation.

We have been working exclusively on this kind of case for many years so have all the experience to know how best to proceed. Their is no obligation to continue after the initial call but if you do then their legal team will work on a 100 per cent no-win no-fee* basis to process your claim.

Claiming for an accident at work

The steps to take on being injured at work are as follows:

    1. Report the accident and injury as soon as possible to a supervisor.
    2. Request that a doctor is needed to see you.
    3. Ask for the incident to be recorded in any relevant reports that are maintained and ask for a workers’ compensation claim form.
    4. Fill in the compensation claim form, only after receiving this are they required to pay you compensation benefits.
    5. It is a mistake to wait until your injury is causing so much pain that work becomes difficult, act quickly.

Whether the workplace injury has left you off work due to instructions from your doctor or because your company cannot offer work within the restrictions your injury presents then you may be entitled to compensation and benefits.

To maintain good relations with your company it is important, and indeed legally required, that you should do all that you can to mitigate the losses in terms of length of time you take and earnings that you would have made. You should seek the relevant medical care to get back to work as soon as possible
