The hazards of not having a gym induction

The best way to ensure that you don’t hurt yourself or damage any of the highly expensive gym equipment is to have a gym induction before you start working out for the first time. For newcomers, this comes with a tag of being tedious, unimportant and sometimes intimidating. But miss your gym induction and you run the risk of serious injury.

What few people realise about going to a gym, is that it’s not just about having the muscles to lift weights and the power to break weight-lifting records on various machines. You need to have the knowledge to work each machine in order to get the most out of the equipment.

Why is a gym induction so important?

In your gym induction, you’ll be instructed on the gym’s etiquette, what is permitted and what isn’t. This is hugely important, as missing this could mean you run the risk of running into trouble further down the line. Included in an introduction to the gym should be how to operate within the gym and an introduction to the many different pieces of apparatus. The gym instructor giving you your induction will show you what muscles each piece of workout equipment uses, and how to use these correctly and safely helping to avoid injury. They want you to know how to use everything in a way which will be safe for everyone, not just you.

As much as it might be redundant to say, your gym induction is you being welcomed into the gym. They will be very friendly and there is no reason to be intimidated by anyone within the gym or staff members. Their main intention is to keep you safe while you work towards becoming healthier and fitter.

Have you had an accident at a gym due to negligence?

Although gyms themselves aim to keep all their clients safe and healthy, some of their users might not be nearly as considerate or caring. If you have had an accident because someone else was careless or because the gym you’re at failed to provide a safe environment, you should contact us to make a claim.  Call our helpline which is active 24/7 on 0800 689 0500, or call us from your mobile on 0333 500 0993. You could also take a 30-second test online to see if you deserve compensation.
