    Is my accident risk reduced by staying in a five-star hotel?

    A five-star hotel should be the epitome of luxury and relaxation and it should logically follow that the stellar standards strived toward would mean that we should have a reduced risk of an accident. Is that the case though?

    What kind of accidents can occur in a hotel?

    The unfortunate thing is that accidents can happen at any time and any place. It’s impossible to exhaustively list all the potential sources of an accident in a hotel but some of the more common claims include:

    • Slips, trips and falls – A slip or trip can occur almost anywhere and a hotel is no exception. Slipping or tripping might occur as the result of an improperly maintained swimming pool surface or area, broken furniture or spilled cleaning fluids.
    • Food poisoning – Although a hotel should be an oasis, and cuisine is high on our list of priorities when choosing accommodation, food poisoning can still happen.
    • Assaults – Unusual although still possible, assaults do occur at hotels, particularly when guests at a party or function have consumed too much alcohol and become violent.

    Are these risks reduced in a five-star hotel?

    Overall, the risk of the an accident through oversight such as a slipping, tripping or falling as the result of broken furniture or a swimming pool surface is greatly reduced. Five-star hotels pride themselves in maintaining a premier reputation and go to great lengths to ensure that guests are comfortable and safe.
