Accident avoidance gadgets: iPhone anti-sleep pilot app

Tiredness is a major contributing factor to a great deal of accidents on the road. The only sure way to prevent causing motoring accidents due to tiredness is to take regular breaks. Unfortunately, drivers do not always realise just how tired they are until it is too late.

    Road traffic accident prevention

In an attempt to help drivers recognise when they get too tired to continue their journey, an iPhone app calculating fatigue levels and suggesting a break when a certain level has been reached can now be obtained.

    How the app works

Automatically registering driving data through built-in sensors, the Anti-Sleep Pilot app calculates fatigue levels based on this data, as well as the driver’s pre-determined (via questionnaire) personal risk profile and fatigue status at the start of the journey. The app uses a total of 26 factors, all of which have been scientifically identified, to make the calculation and alerts the driver when it is time to take a break.

    Car crash compensation

Naturally, it is still up to the driver whether to heed the warning and take a break or not. If you were injured in a road traffic accident because another driver was too tired to concentrate properly on the road or maybe even fell asleep, you may qualify to claim for car crash compensation.
