The owners of Alton Towers are to be prosecuted following a roller coaster accident which left five people seriously injured.
Merlin Attractions Operations Ltd, of Poole, Dorset, is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of visitors to the theme park in Staffordshire.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) says there is sufficient evidence to bring a prosecution against Merlin Attractions Operations Ltd.
Neil Craig, head of operations for HSE in the Midlands, claims a prosecution is also in the public interest.
Merlin Attractions Operations Ltd will consequently appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme on April 22 to face a charge under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
It follows a thorough investigation into the crash, which happened when a carriage collided with a stationary carriage on the same track.
