No Win No Fee in Long Buckby

Long Buckby is a large village and civil parish within the ceremonial county of Northamptonshire, in the northern part of central England. The village is situated between the larger settlements of Northampton and Rugby and is served by the London Midland Railway Company via a loop on the West Coast Main Line.

    Long Buckby Through The Years

There has been human habitation in the area which now forms Long Buckby since at least the time of the Vikings, when much of the north and central areas of England fell under Danelaw. The fact that Long Buckby itself originates from this period is proved by the origins of its name, as Buckby is widely believed to derive from the Old Norse words Bec and By, which respectively can be translated as meaning ‘Brook or stream’ and ‘village’. This therefore suggests that in the time of strong Norse influence in the region, the settlement was described as ‘the village by the brook’.

By the time of the Domesday Book in 1086, the village’s name had begun its transformation towards its current form, with the settlement having been recorded as Buchebei, but it is not known when the affix of ‘Long’ was added to the title. In its early modern history the village had a thriving shoemaking industry but today it is largely a residential settlement where the residents commute to and from working locations elsewhere.

    Today’s Long Buckby

Despite being a largely residential village, Long Buckby does include a number of features and amenities including a doctor’s surgery, two dentists, four churches, two schools, a public library, a veterinary surgery, a boarding cattery, a post office and a community centre. There are surely a multitude of issues discussed within this community centre, but the question is do you ever talk about the phrase no win no fee Long Buckby residents?
