Claims for an injury caused by unsafe furniture will need the help of no win no fee lawyers in Chesterfield

The town of Chesterfield is located in the Derbyshire county in the UK and a Lidl supermarket store in Chesterfield was recently fined for selling furniture that was incorrectly labelled and did not meet safety standards. An investigation was made by Derbyshire County Council trading standards into the Lidl Chesterfield store and the ensuing case was heard at the Chesterfield magistrates court on September 3. The charge made against Lidl UK was of selling unsafe upholstered furniture that failed the regulations and requirements for flammability. Lidl UK pleaded guilty to the charge and to the charge of incorrectly labelling furniture.

The Deputy Cabinet Member for the Health and Communities department at the council said in regards to the outcome of the case that the outcome was positive and that furniture that fails flammability tests can have serious consequences for consumers with flame-resistant furniture potentially saving lives by giving people time to escape from fires in their homes.

The company was fined £2,400 by the magistrates court for selling the furniture assessed as unsafe and £800 for the charge of incorrect labelling. The investigation into Lidl furniture began in January after a chair bed from the store was found to have failed flammability tests and the proper labelling requirements through testing by the Derbyshire County Council trading standards officers.

The error by the manufacturer for Lidl was caused by the fact that the chair bed was tested as if the piece of furniture was a mattress and not a chair bed, with the different requirements for labelling and flammability depending on the type of furniture, it failed the tests. Over 5,400 of the chair beds have been sold but Lidl has accepted the decision and has issued a product recall across the nation. Lidl was also ordered to pay court costs.
