Whiplash Injury in Shipston on Stour

Shipston on Stour is a small market town in the Cotswolds, on the banks or the River Stour, in south Warwickshire, and is around eleven miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. Like many other towns in the Cotswolds in the past the economy depended on the farming of sheep. Shipston on Stour was called Scepwaeisctune in the 8th century; this is Old English for ‘sheep wash town’ as there was a sheep market at that time in what was then a hamlet or perhaps a village. Sheep were herded from the hills in early summer, after the lambing season, to be washed in the Stour. The name evolved until it became Schipton in the 13th century. The famous Sheldon tapestries were made in Barcheston which is a hamlet close to Shipston on Stour. These were woollen tapestries (wool was in plentiful supply) which were decorated with silk thread.
