Of a whiplash injury

Road Traffic Collisions

If you have been involved in a road traffic collision, whether as the driver of a vehicle or the passenger, then you might be entitled to make a claim for compensation.

If the accident you have been involved in was not your fault, then Accident Advice Helpline can help you make a claim for financial compensation against the person who was at fault. The compensation we can help you win will not only compensate you for the injury you have suffered, but can also go towards aiding your recovery, and covering any loss of earnings or other out of pocket expenses you may have experienced as a result of the accident and the injuries.

Common Injuries

If you have been involved in a road traffic collision of some kind it may not come as a surprise to you to learn that the most common injuries occurring as a result of such incidents can include:

  • Concussion
  • Whiplash
  • Broken bones
  • Burns
  • Cuts, grazes, bruises
  • Amputation of limbs
  • Crush injuries

Arguably, the most common, even in relatively minor low-speed collisions is whiplash.

Symptoms of a whiplash injury

The symptoms of a whiplash injury can vary; however, the main signs that you may be suffering such an injury include:

  • Stiffness in the neck area
  • Reduced movement of the neck
  • Pain in and around the neck area
  • Headaches
  • Muscle spasms

The more serious symptoms of a whiplash injury include:

  • Swelling
  • Back pain
  • Pins and needs (or a general tingling) in the hands, arms and fingers
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness or lethargy
  • Nausea, sometimes accompanies by vomiting

In the vast majority of cases these symptoms of a whiplash injury will not present themselves immediately following an accident as they can take several days to establish themselves.  They may also get worse over a period of time before starting to get better.

Although the symptoms of a whiplash injury do, for the  most part, disappear of their own accord (time is, after all, a great healer) for some people they can be left with the effects of the injury for weeks,  months or even years depending on the severity.

Regardless of the type of injury you have sustained it is important that you seek the advice of a medical practitioner.

Treatment of a whiplash injury

There is no specified treatment of a whiplash injury as most people will find that the body will heal itself over a relatively short period of time.

Pain can be minimised with the use of ice packs and anti-inflammatory drugs are often prescribed to help with the swelling and general pain management.  It is important you speak to your GP about the best course of action when dealing with the effects of a whiplash injury.
