    Whiplash claim in Waterstock

    Personal Injury Solicitors in Waterstock

Whiplash is a painful and disabling condition that is often the result of a road traffic accident collision or rear end shunt.  Whiplash is caused by the sudden and violent jolting of the neck sideways, forwards or backwards, out of its normal movement zone.

This jerking movement causes the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the neck to be stretched and torn, an injury that anywhere else in the body we would call a sprain.

    Whiplash symptoms

    • pain over the neck muscles
    • stiffness of the neck
    • head ache
    • nausea
    • dizziness
    • tenderness of the neck

    Causes of whiplash

    1. road traffic accidents
    2. falls from height
    3. sporting accidents
    4. construction site accidents
    5. workplace accidents

    Treating whiplash injuries

Whiplash should always be diagnosed by a medical practitioner who can rule out other potentially more serious injuries such as broken bones in the neck.  Whenever the neck is injured, it is important to ensure that there is no neural damage which can have long term consequences.  Whiplash injuries usually become apparent about 6-12 hours following an accident.

For mild to moderate symptoms, rest and painkillers may be prescribed in order to relieve the pain and discomfort. More severe symptoms may require a neck brace to support the damaged tissue and allow movement of the neck.  However, these should not be used for a prolonged time as they can restrict the mobility of the neck.

Physiotherapy may be recommended and this can be a long term treatment that may need to be paid for privately, as it is difficult to obtain on the National Health Service and requires a long waiting list.
