Motor vehicle accident claims for compensation

If you are a motorist, chances are that you have been or will be involved in a motor vehicle accident at some point in your life. Accidents can happen at any time, but the roads in the UK can be particularly dangerous if people do not respect the traffic laws and are careless or negligent.

If you are involved in a non fault motor vehicle accident then a claim for your injuries and financial loss can be made against the negligent party.

    Time limit

In order to qualify for compensation the motor accident should have occurred within the last three years.

    Proving fault

It should be evident that the motor vehicle accident was not your fault. There should be sufficient proof and documentation to support your motor vehicle accident claims for compensation.

    Claiming compensation

Most of the claim can be handled over the phone. Your solicitor will require some information from you regarding the motor vehicle accident.

An accurate and detailed account of the accident will be taken. Along with a list of the injuries you sustained, treatment you have received and any ongoing symptoms.

Your solicitor will also require documentation to support any special expenses relating to the accident. For example you can claim for loss of earning, prescription charges and also future loss of earnings. Wage slips, receipts and invoices are required.

It may be that you need to undergo further medical examinations, if this is the case then your solicitor will arrange these medical appointments for you.

    Calculating and negotiating

Your personal injury solicitor will then calculate the amount of compensation they feel you deserve and is fair. Do not worry as you will be consulted throughout the whole process and kept up to date on the proceedings. It may be necessary to negotiate with the negligent party till a satisfactory settlement is made. Most claims are settled within a few months.
