Have you had an unexpected accident in Settle?
The settlement of Settle is believed to originate from the seventh century AD, with the name being the Anglo-Saxon for settlement. The town’s entry in the Domesday Book of 1086 suggests that the town was under the leadership of a lord by the name of Bo until the time of the ‘Harrying of the North’ in the late 1060’s. After this point, the ownership of the town passed to one Roger de Poitou.
It was in 1249 that Settle received its first Royal Charter, allowing it to hold a market and essentially granting it status as a town. This led to the development of a market square within the town, as well as a general expansion of Settle.
Modern Day Settle
Today, the town of Settle is a smaller than average market town which holds its weekly market on a Tuesday afternoon. According to the latest census data, the town is home to a little over 2,000 residents which are somewhat supplemented by tourists who visit attractions like the 17th century Folly and the Gallery on the Green art gallery.
As has been mentioned, Settle is not the largest of towns but it is still active enough to mean that it will inevitably be the location of some accidents and injuries in an average year. That therefore means that it could be important for you to learn a little more about compensation and the role of solicitors in Settle.
