What to do if your luggage is lost on holiday, and how to make accident claims
Losing your luggage is one thing that is almost guaranteed to throw a spanner in the works when it comes to your holiday. You will have spent days, or even weeks, carefully picking out everything you want to take with you on your holiday, your favourite outfits and extra items to make your break a little more special.
If you lose all of this before you even arrive at your destination then this can easily put a downer on your holiday, and you may even feel that your holiday will not be able to recover from this. However, if you do your best not to make a big deal out of it, and find some ways to recover, then you can still have a great holiday, and hopefully get your stuff back!
- Beg, borrow and steal! If you have to go without your luggage for a little while, ask friends and family you are travelling with to help you out in the meantime. You are there to enjoy your holiday, not show off your clothes and accessories so, although it is upsetting, you must try to get on with your holiday.
- Call the airline repeatedly. Make sure that you call the airline as often as you can to remind them of your lost luggage and check up on where it may be. The person that shouts the loudest gets heard first, so make sure that your voice is the only one they hear, all day every day!
- Make a list. Write down everything that was in your case and a rough estimate of how much everything cost. This will help you to claim back what has been lost by the airline if your luggage never shows up. This will also help you to feel more in control of the situation.
- Do some shopping. This may be the perfect excuse for you to do your holiday shopping a little early, and to spoil yourself a little more than you usually would!
